On April 6, CATL "officially announced" the latest progress of its internationalization, the company's first overseas factory in Thuringia, Germany, obtained an 8GWh battery cell production license, the plant plans to invest a total of 1.8 billion euros, planned production capacity of 14GWh, the future will provide a total of 2,000 jobs in the local area. Located in the heart of Germany, the plant will provide quality products and services to germany's major automakers, contributing to Europe's full electrification and energy transition.

Under the support of overseas policies, the Ningde era "went to sea"

The New European Carbon Emission Policy, introduced in April 2019, was implemented in January 2020, and countries increased policy support such as subsidies for new energy vehicle purchases. In September 2020, the European Commission launched the Climate Target Plan 2030, which aims to increase the share of renewable energy generation from the current 32% to more than 65% by 2030. Since then, the demand for new energy vehicles and energy storage equipment in overseas markets has increased significantly.

In May 2021, the United States passed the U.S. Clean Energy Bill, which increased subsidies for new energy vehicles again, planning to provide $31.6 billion in electric vehicle consumption tax credits, increasing the maximum tax credit for electric vehicles assembled in the United States from $7,500 to $10,000, and increasing the maximum tax credit for automobiles with production workers as union members by $2,500.

In August 2021, U.S. President Joe Biden signed an executive order announcing that new energy vehicles will account for 50 percent of new U.S. passenger car and light truck sales by 2030.

Under the background of overseas policy, the "going to sea" of the Ningde era has accelerated the global layout, better met the needs of overseas customers and reduced logistics costs. The company has set up a number of R & D centers and production bases in the United States, Germany, France and Japan.

At present, CATL is sprinting for the first batch of batteries to roll off the production line before the end of 2022. This is not only the first battery factory in Germany in the NINGD era, but also the first overseas base for The Chinese battery factory to be put into operation. The industry generally believes that Germany has an extremely important market position in the wave of electrification in the EU, so it has become a must for Chinese battery factories to "go to sea" and enter the EU in recent years.

Develop overseas customers and accelerate the global layout

According to the prediction of the head leopard market, China and Europe will continue to lead the global new energy market, China will be the world's largest new energy vehicle market, and Europe ranks second. Conservative forecasts show that European power battery demand will reach 174GWh in 2025 and 820GWh by 2030.

In 2012, the company became the power battery supplier of BMW Brilliance's first EV "Zhinuo 1E", fired the first shot to enter the international market, in 2018 obtained the fixed point letter of BMW Group, Daimler, Hyundai Kia and many other overseas OEMs, and made substantial progress in overseas business, in 2020, the company signed a power battery framework agreement with Tesla, in 2021 Tesla surpassed Weilai to become the company's largest customer, and the company also officially replaced LGES and became Tesla's largest power battery supplier.

In terms of the expansion of new customers of power batteries in Europe and the United States, it is worth noting that the Stellantis Group, which has transformed the production of electric vehicles, is currently considering the construction of 5 battery super factories with the assistance of partners, which will be distributed in Europe and North America to facilitate the local use of materials by its factories. According to the plan, by 2025, three super factories of the Stellantis Group will be put into use, with a total annual production capacity of not less than 130GWh. CATL is part of the Listantis Group's partner list to provide the necessary support to the Gigafactory in europe.

In addition, in December 2021, Ford Motor confirmed that CATL has become a supplier of power batteries for Ford vehicles. Lisa Drake, Chief Operating Officer of Ford Motor Co., Ltd., said at the investor conference that the company plans to increase its electric vehicle production capacity to 600,000 vehicles per year within two years, becoming the world's second-largest electric vehicle manufacturer.
